Harare (New Ziana) – Rwandan Minister of Defence, Major General Albert Murasira who is in the country on an official visit, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at state House.

The visit by Major General Murasira followed a trip to Rwanda by Zimbabwe’s Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri in August.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Major General Murasira said President Mnangagwa okayed plans for Rwanda and Zimbabwe to exchange information on tackling the prevailing insurgency in Mozambique.

“The President supports the bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Zimbabwe especially in our programme of exhanging information on combating terrorism across the continent including Mozambique.

” We will continue to work with the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs so that we put into practise what we have agreed on,” he said.

He added: “We have support from the highest level”.

Rwanda has already deployed troops to Mozambique as part of the region’s commitment to restore peace in Cabo Delgado while Zimbabwe is expected to send a team of over 300 defence instructors to train Mozambican troops.

During his stay, the Rwandan Minister had the opportunity to visit the African Liberation Museum, the Zimbabwe Staff College, the National Heroes Acre and the National Defense University among other institutions .

“At the Zimbabwe Staff College, I learnt that some of our Generals were trained here in Zimbabwe at the staff college and we want to revitalise this relationship.

” We want to build our own defence university so we will consult with Zimbabweans to help us establish our own,” he said.
