Samaritan stabbed

SHURUGWI – A man was stabbed to death during an altercation in a bar in which he was trying to
stop his friend from being assaulted.

Luckmore Kombayi (31) was stabbed by Tawanda Mativenga (35) at Chamagomana Business Centre
on October 28 at around 8pm.

Circumstances are that Mativenga approached one Benson Machisa (25) who was playing snooker in
Mubaiwa Store with Kombayi.

Police said Mativenga shouted at Benson and went on to grab him by the collar. Kombayi
intervened in an attempt to stop the assault which was imminent.

“Mativenga got angry and stabbed Kombayi with a knife once on the chest. Kombayi sustained a
deep stab wound and he bled to death,” Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel
Mahoko said.

Kombayi’s body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary.

Mativenga was arrested on October 29 as investigations progressed.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for three men in connection with an attempted
murder, which occurred in Mkoba 15, Gweru after a 38-year-old man was stabbed with a knife at
Blues Night Club on October 26 at about 1:30am.

The victim, an employee at Blues Night Club was on duty when three men entered the club with
torches and helmets.

“They stabbed him all over his body with a knife before fleeing from the scene using a Toyota
Funcargo,” Insp Mahoko said.

Police are still to establish the motive behind the stabbing.

Insp Mahoko said the victim is currently admitted in hospital.

He appealed to members of the public who might have information in connection with this this case
to report at any police station.
