THIS year’s three-day Let Them the festival held in Domboshava was a marvel to
watch as children unleashed their creativity in acting, dance, song and theatre.
Let Them festival is a child-oriented creative, educational and cultural initiative that
creates platforms for young people to showcase their artistic talent.
The 11th edition of Let Them annual Schools Arts Festival took place recently and
for the duration of the festival, Domboshava was the focal point of activities for
communities from around the area, some 20km outside the capital in Mashonaland
East Province.
This year’s theme for the festival was “Njabulo” – Celebration and featured five art
categories.
Founder and festival director, Chido Musasiwa Gutu said: “What was most telling
were the expressions of love and happiness on the faces of the participants.”
While the expectation is to have as many schools as possible participating in the
three-day festival. This year was different because the organisers prioritised schools
in Domboshava, Hatcliff and surrounding areas in their engagement efforts.
“We see many possibilities of how this festival could yield a beneficial return for
those that were involved.”
The belief is that attendance and participation provides a great opportunity for
schools to showcase their talent and interact with other schools.
The Festival provides a space and platform for schools to also receive feedback from
experienced adjudicators.
