Schools set to re-open

Harare (New Ziana) – Cabinet on Wednesday directed the reopening of schools starting with examination classes on August 30, followed by non-examination classes on September 6.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the re-opening of schools, after a lengthy closure for COVID-19 reasons, was being done after massive efforts to ensure the safety of learners.

Meanwhile, Cabinet also allowed restaurants to re-open for sit-in services, but only for clients with proof of vaccination, in line with emerging global trends as the use of “COVID-19 passports” slowly becomes reality.

Several other countries across the world including Israel, France and some parts of the United States have also made it mandatory for people to provide proof of vaccination in order to access basic services including gyms, malls and restaurants.

Several local private companies, including SeedCo and Tel One have already asked their employees to get vaccinated or produce, at their own expense, weekly PCR negative test certificates.

Mutsvangwa said; “The nation is further informed that restaurants will be allowed to re-open for sit in patrons who are fully vaccinated subject to the production of vaccination cards and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.”
