Second Republic committed to rebuilding a peaceful, prosperous Zimbabwe

Bulawayo (New Ziana)-The Second Republic is committed to rebuilding a peaceful and prosperous country which citizens can take pride in, a senior government official has said.

Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube said this on Thursday while addressing guests attending the belated International Day of Peace commemorations which the Zimbabwe Christian Alliance organised and held at the Brethren in Christ Church in Lobengula high density suburb.

The United Nations in 1981 designated 21 September of every year as the International Day of Peace, or World Peace Day, and this year the commemorations were held under the theme “End Racism. Build Peace.”

“All the national projects we are currently witnessing such as Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) and Lake Gwayi Shangani construction are succeeding because of peaceful environment prevailing in the country,” said Ncube.

She said the existing peace in the country allowed the nation to focus on nation building, economic revival as well as improving the lives of ordinary people, adding violence and chaos scared away potential investors.

The government, she said, was committed to the goals of peace as evidenced by the establishment of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC).

Ncube applauded churches and the media for continuously disseminating the gospel of peace to the nation.

Addressing the same gathering, NPRC chairperson retired Justice Selo Nare said the Commission remained committed to fostering harmony and peace in the society for all generations.

Nare said the NPRC was working with various stakeholders to achieve its goal of championing the peace agenda.
