Shearwater Adventures and Three Monkeys have set up a theatre in Victoria Falls as a tourism
product to diversify the industry and make it more appealing to those who visit the world wonder.
“We have introduced theatre as a tourism product to be run in Vic falls, this is a tourism product
that has never been run in Victoria falls,” said Clement Mukwasi a Tourism Executive from Shear
Waters.
He noted that the Victoria Falls has more than 20 tourism products which as years go by have
become monotonous for tourists.
“Most of the activities in Victoria Falls had become tired, our selling points were becoming weaker.
The introduction of theatre is actually broadening the selling base for the destination of Victoria
Falls,” he said
“We have had dance groups, drama etc, but proper professional stage theatre has never been
packaged as one of the things that can be done in Victoria Falls.”
The theatre product will start this month and it hoped that it will interest visitors and make their visit
more appealing as the industry hopes to make a huge impact in earning the country foreign
currency. The product entails live stage performances by well trained professional actors who will be
delivering world class performances.
“The theatre depicts a proper African set up, where there are kings and clans, issues of traditional
African marriage are raised in the theatre, issues of war, peace and reconciliation in our African
culture, the authentic African culture that was there before colonialism is showcased in this
theatre.”
Mukwasi said the new product comes at a time when the country is recovering from the COVID -19
pandemic.
“This new product is coming particularly after the end of the COVID- 19 and we feel this is the best
time to introduce and invest in this kind of activity.”
Despite the off season of tourism activities, Mukwasi indicated that tourists are already flocking to
the resort town of Victoria Falls.
“In the past we spoke of revenge tourism and it is still happening, despite the fact that this is not a
high traveling period for tourists, the Victoria Falls destination is busy, most hotels are full on daily
business in Victoria Falls.”
