    Six suspects arrested, assortment of guns recoveredd

    KWEKWE – A swift reaction by police detectives foiled what could have led to a possible
    unprecedented reign of terror by armed robbers in the Midlands province.
    Six suspects were arrested within 24 hours of committing an aggravated unlawful entry and theft in
    Chicago, Kwekwe, where among their loot, they had stolen five guns and an assortment of
    ammunition.
    All the five firearms and the ammunition were recovered after the arrests in Kwekwe and Harare.
    Midlands Provincial Community Relations and Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko
    confirmed the arrest of the six suspects for aggravated unlawful entry into premises and theft which
    occurred the during the night on 30 December 2022.
    Insp. Mahoko identified the suspects as Ali Awali Ali (33) of Amaveni, Kwekwe, Daniel Mubaiwa (43)
    of Denda Village, Chief Nyamaropa Mt Darwin, Tafadzwa Chitsiga (24) of Hatcliff, Harare, Gilbert
    Madhami (27), of Glen Norah C, Harare, Enerst Taruvinga (31), of Budiriro 2, Harare and Godknows
    Bushu (42) of Mbare, Harare.
    It is alleged that a prominent Kwekwe businessman, went away for the holidays with his family,
    leaving behind his domestic worker alone at his Chicago residence.
    During the night of December 30, 2022, the suspects forced open the main gate’s lock and doors
    into the house using an unknown object. They allegedly disconnected the CCTV camera and deleted
    part of the CCTV footage.
    The suspects ransacked all the rooms breaking the gun cabinet in the main bedroom and took Grand
    Power CANKT9 9mm, Grand Power CANKT9 9mm, Beretta 0.22 mm, 9mm FN Pistol, four Iphone cell
    phones and an Apple IPad, two boxes full of jewellery which contained silver necklaces, gold rings,
    gold necklaces, gold and silver ear rings, gold and silver bangles.
    The domestic worker was awakened by footsteps and switched on all lights thinking that the
    employer had returned from holiday. The six suspects panicked and ran out of the premises.
    The employer and the police were immediately informed and investigations began in earnest.
    On the same day, police managed to arrest Ali and Mubaiwa in Amaveni, Kwekwe. They led police
    detectives to the recovery of a gold bracelet hidden in a toilet.
    Kwekwe and Harare detectives teamed up in tracking down the remaining suspects, resulting in the
    arrest of the other four suspects in Borrowdale, and Harare Central Business District.
    One iPhone 5 and a silver bracelet were recovered after physical searches of the suspects. The
    suspects then led investigating Officers to recover the 0.22mm Beretta Pistol which was hidden
    under a sink, a 9mm FN Pistol was recovered in Mbare with its magazine of 16 rounds, an Ineco
    silver box and a Snug Power Bank were recovered in a washing basket, a Grand Power Stribog was
    recovered in Dzivaresekwa. The other Grand Power Stribog was recovered in a bush area near the
    complainant's house where the suspects had hidden it.

    “We applaud the public who interacted with detectives who were investigating this case for their
    cooperation. They really helped us, and we call upon other members of the public to emulate the
    gesture whenever they are approached by police officers on duty,” said Insp. Mahoko.
