Harare (New Ziana) – The Provincial Planning office will look into the City of Harare Glen Norah stands that were allocated on the roads, with a view to address the anomaly, secretary for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution Tafadzwa Muguti said on Thursday.

In a statement, the office of the secretary for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution said Muguti tasked the Provincial Planning Office to look in to the City of Harare Glen Norah stands allocated on the road amongst many other stands issued on road servitudes.

The media has of late been awash with stories of new residential stands that were allocated on tarred streets in suburbs such as Glen Norah following an outcry by residents.

Officials including permanent secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana also took to social media to express disgruntlement over the illegal creation of residential stands on tarred streets.

“There is absolutely nothing smart about this. The only thing spaghetti about this is the way one has to navigate and weave around the eyesore.

” The microcosm reflects the macrocosm. Those who cannot run small things can’t surely run bigger things, ” he said.

Analysts have accused the Harare City Council of corruption for allocating residential stands on tarred streets as well as converting recreation areas and wetlands to housing stands in total disregard of by-laws.

The City Council has however argued that the roads were in the wrong place.

“The road is the illegal structure. No one has been prejudiced. All have access to their properties,” tweeted the local authority.

In a statement, Muguti said any short comings exposed by the Harare provincial planning office would be reported to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

“The Provincial Planner will look into the original plans for the city, change of use authorizations, community engagements and approvals for the existing structures being built,” said Muguti’s office.
