Tapiwa Makore’s murderers convicted

Share

Harare (New Ziana) -The High Court on Thursday found Tapiwa Makore Snr and Tafadzwa Shamba as guilty of the murder in 2020 of 11-year-old Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore Junior.

High Court Judge Munamato Mutevedzi found Shamba and Makore guilty as charged and as an accomplice respectively in a lengthy judgement which took more than five hours to deliver.

He postponed passing sentence to July 12 after the defence indicated that it wanted to make submissions in mitigation.

A trial within a trial had been conducted during the trial after Shamba disowned the statement that he had made to the citing torture by the police.

However, Justice Mutevedzi ruled that the court had convinced itself that the statement was made voluntarily since Shamba had not mentioned the assault to anyone including the numerous magistrates before whom he appeared during the course of the trial.

In convicting Makore as an accomplice, Justice Mutevedzi said the court had not found any evidence to link him to the actual commission of the murder but had found evidence that he significantly aided and abated it.
