Teen cell phone thief jailed

CHIPINGE – A Chipinge teenager was sentenced 15 months in jail for housebreaking
and theft after he stole a mobile phone device early last month (November this year).

Douglas Mtetwa (19) of Konjani Village under Chief Sarahwa in Chipinge, appeared
before Bikita magistrate, Rutendo Jakati, on November 20, 2023 at the Bikita
Magistrate’s Court.

In its successful case, the State proved that on November 16, 2023 in Chinobva
Village under Chief Mkanganwi in Bikita, Mtetwa broke into Cotli Chirume`s
homestead at around 11 pm and snatched her Itel smart phone through a window
and ran away.

A Form Four learner at Gwindingwi High School identified as Witlo testified to having
seen Mtetwa committing the offence.

Police found the gadget in his possession and produced it as evidence in court.
Magistrate Jakati found Mtetwa guilty and sentenced him to effective 15 months in
prison.
