Telone take initiative as Tongo stumbles

Share

GWERU – Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League log pacesetters Telone FC increased their
lead at the top of the log to six points after second placed Tongogara stumbled on the road during
matchday 21 fixtures.
It was business as usual for the Telecoms outfit as they beat Bishopstone 2-0 at Ascot Stadium in
Gweru, while Tongogara were held nil all by neighbours ZPC Munyati at Munyati Stadium in Kwekwe.
Telone increased their points tally to 49 points, while Tongogara moved to 43 points after the one
point earned against ZPC Munyati.
The six-point gap put Telone’s dream of winning the sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League closer
as the league has five matches before the curtain comes down.
Air Force of Zimbabwe side Chapungu FC, which spent the season blowing hot and cold has moved
to third place after a rejuvenation. Chapungu beat Midlands State University 2-1 to bring their points
to 40, which is nine adrift of log leaders Telone.
ZPC Munyati now has 39 points in fourth position after their draw with Tongogara. The pre-season
favourites are a distant 10 points behind Telone.
FC Platinum U19 and MSU complete the top six places with 35 and 31 points respectively.
The bottom end of the log has CM Academy and Loss Control with 13 points each, while Amazon are
third from bottom with 18 points.
With the league entering matchday 22 this weekend, Telone are against Beitbridge side CM
Academy at Dulibadzimu Stadium in the border town, while Tongogara has a tricky fixture against
Chapungu in a battle of the soldiers at Tongogara.
Telone could get three points on a 3-0 scoreline as CM Academy have been on the wrong side of a
wrangle with Zifa over affiliation fees. Most of their matches in the second half of the season have
been awarded to opponents through walkovers.
Tongogara goes into the match fully aware that any further slip-ups could put their chances of
gaining promotion in smoke.
ZPC Munyati are on the road to Gwanda where they face Blanet Mine at Long John Stadium.
