Telone, Tongogara drop points

Share

GWERU — Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League top title contenders, Telone FC and
Tongogara dropped points when they posted draws in their weekend matches.
Telone FC were engaged in a blood and thunder city derby against a determined Chapungu FC at
Ascot Stadium in the Midlands capital. Second placed Tongogara visited unpredictable Shabanie
Mine at their fortress at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane.
The two big matches attracted huge following as they could have a say in the titanic race for the
championship and the coveted sole Premiership ticket into the elite Castle Lager Premier Soccer
League.
Telone had to come from behind after the airmen surged ahead early in the second half. The
equaliser came from the boot of seasoned and vastly experienced Tafadzwa Sibanda after a
beautifully well worked raid that involved Blessing Sahondo.
The equaliser came just after Chapungu had taken the lead. After the equaliser, both teams opted
for more experience in a bid to wrestle the blood and thunder encounter in their favour.
Telone threw in former Chicken Inn and ZPC Kariba midfielder Brian Juru as they tried to take control
of the evenly balanced encounter. In response Chapungu also fielded Patrick Khumbula and Tineyi
Chitora into the fray. The changes made an instant impact as both teams created more scoring
chances.
However, the derby ended in a draw as the two arch rivals were inseparable when the referee blew
to end the action packed match.
Second placed Tongogara blew a huge opportunity to narrow the gap between them and the log
leaders when they shared the spoils with Shabanie Mine. The match ended 1-1.
The results allowed third placed ZPC Munyati to narrow the gap between them and the army side.
The Rutherford Matondo coached ZPC Munyati claimed a famous 3-2 away victory after a tightly
contested battle at Bishopstone's Muchato Stadium in Beitbridge.
The power utility side reduced the gap between them and second placed Tongogara to six points.
Meanwhile, in other matches played across the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League, FC
Platinum Under 19 suffered a 1-2 home defeat to visiting Dulibadzimu United at Mandava Stadium.
Max Ruza's Blanket Mine were also beaten 1-0 by CM Academy in the border town of Beitbridge.
Ambitious Kwekwe United subdued visiting Amazon 1-0 after former CAPS United player Moses
Muchenje struck the only goal at Ziscosteel Sports Club in Redcliff. Loss Control continued to struggle
when they conceded a 0-2 home defeat at the hands of visiting MSU at Gresham Stadium in
Zvishavane.
