Harare (New Ziana) –The Zimbabwe Republic Police had by Friday mid-morning arrested ten people in connection with public violence that occurred in Glen Norah high density suburb on Thursday, which resulted in the death of one person.

Edson Chitsunge died during violence which broke out in the riverside area of Glen Norah near Tanaka Grounds around 1 PM.

In a twitter thread, the police initially announced the arrest of two people in connection with the violence but gave an update midmorning that the arrests had risen to ten.

In a condolence message, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the government had been alerted to the incident which resulted in the loss of life.

“Our condolences go to the family of the deceased. @Police Zimbabwe are on the scene carrying out investigations and they will issue a statement giving more details to the nation. As Government we call for calm and ride on His Excellency, President @edmnangagwa’s message of peaceful campaigns, free contestation of ideas and political tolerance. Police will do their job and whoever is found on the wrong side of the law will face its full wrath,” it said its Twitter page.

President Mnangagwa has at virtually every rally that he has addressed as he campaigns for the August 23 general elections, called for peace before, during and after the polls.

The country is set to choose a President, House of Assembly and local government representatives for the next five years.

Meanwhile Ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana said some individuals purporting to be French journalists had just been barred from entering the country after they tried to do so through the Sango Border Post without clearance.

“Please don’t try to sneak into the country; we will question your bona fides. Please apply to come and gather news in Zimbabwe properly and you will be cleared,” he said in a twitter thread.
