Timely Agric boost for Chipinge farmers

Share

Chipinge (New Ziana)-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday donated farming inputs to the Chipinge community to boost food security and aid in resilience within the irrigation schemes.

The donations were unveiled at the Zanu PF election campaign launch rally held in Mutema village, Chipinge.

The consignment included goats, fertilizers, seeds and other agricultural inputs to benefit vulnerable households and the disabled in Mutema-Musikavanhu constituency.

Late last year, President Mnangagwa pledged that every household in the rural areas would get inputs under the Presidential Inputs Scheme and true to his word the Chipinge Community received 500 goats plus vegetable seeds for every attendee.

The Presidential Inputs Scheme anchors the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme adopted to address the problems of low productivity and low profitability in the agricultural sector.
Under programme, farmers are set to receive a 50kg bag of Compound D fertiliser, a 50 kg bag of Ammonium Nitrate a 5kg bag of seed maize and in some instances bags of small grain.

Last month, Maunganidze Irrigation Scheme in Chipinge received a shot in the arm when the United Nations Population Services installed a 130kv solar plant to enhance their productivity which was being compromised by the obtaining power cuts.

Maunganidze is one of the largest irrigation schemes in Chipinge.

The timely donation of farming inputs by President Mnangagwa has helped promote and foster food security and promote productivity of small scale farmers in the region which was heavily affected by the ravages of Cyclone Idai in 2019.

Addressing thousands at Mutema Secondary School in Chipinge President Mnangagwa said in a short period of time the country has grown the agriculture sector from a $3,8 billion industry to $8 billion testimony to the agricultural inputs prgrammes bearing fruit.
