Train derails, injuring two

Nyazura, (New Ziana) – A National Railways of Zimbabwe train derailed in Nyazura on Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring two employees, while a third was missing, eyewitnesses said.

The train was carrying chrome, and derailed at Tikwiri station near Tsungwesi along the Mutare-Harare railway line.

Villagers were the first to arrive at the scene of the derailment, and were frantically trying to find the missing third employee, believed to have been trapped in between locomotives.

The train reportedly had a crew of three.

Of the two rescued, one sustained a broken leg, while the other had multiple injuries. The injured were rushed to Victoria Chitepo Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the derailment was caused by brake failure, made worse by the high speed it was travelling at.
