Harare (New Ziana)-Interim Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu on Tuesday recalled 18 more legislators from the National Assembly and Senate.

The latest recalls, thirteen from the National Assembly and five from the Senate, were announced separately in the two chambers when the Tuesday sittings began.

From the National Assembly, Tshabangu recalled party deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba who is also legislator for Pelandaba constituency, chief whip Amos Chibaya (Mkoba north), Admore Chivero (Chegutu West), Stephen Chatiza (Goromonzi West), Willard Madzimbamuto (Seke), Oliver Mutasa (Zvimba East), Emma Muzondida (Midlands Proportional Representation), Machirairwa Mugidho (Masvingo PR), Monica Mukwada (Manicaland PR), Sekai Mungani (Midlands), Linnet Mazingaizo (Harare) and Dephine Gutsa.

Affected Senators include Jameson Timba, Webster Maodera, Editor Matamisa (Mashonaland West) and Ralph Magunje (Mashonaland West).

The fresh recalls bring to 33 the number of vacant seats that have arisen in Parliament and are due for by-elections.

Earlier on Tuesday, High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi had temporarily barred the Speaker of of the National Jacob Mudenda, Senate President Mabel Chinomomna and Local Government Minister Wiston Chitando from effecting further recalls of CCC MPs and councillors at the behest of Tshabangu.

Speaking to journalists, CCC chief whip Chibaya was confident that the court interdict would reverse their recalls.

“The High Court ruling should supersede the Parliament recalls. We maintain that Tshabangu is not a member of CCC and has no authority to recall us from Parliament,” he said.
