Two maids jailed for stealing $26K from employer

Harare (New Ziana) – Two housemaids from the eastern border city of Mutare have been sentenced to 36 months in prison for stealing US$26 000 from their employer’s bedroom.

The theft occurred on July 11 this year, when Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda (32) and Ashely Munyaradzi Matika (20), employed as house maids in Chikanga high density surbub of Mutare, stole a cash box containing the money and shared it.

The employer discovered the offence the following day and reported it to the police, leading to the arrest of the two maids.

Police investigations recovered the cash box and US$7 800.

The Mutare magistrate court sentenced Sibanda and Matika to 36 months in prison, with six months suspended on condition they do not commit a similar offence within five years.

An additional 12 months were suspended on condition of restitution, while the remainder was also suspended pending completion of 630 hours of community service.
