Kwekwe (New Ziana) – Two people were murdered in Kwekwe in two separate incidents on 31 December 2021 and on New Years Day, police said on Tuesday.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said some suspects had been arrested, while a manhunt for others on the run had been launched.
He identified the victims as John Gomba (38) of Alarm 3 Mine Compound and Yeukai Muzadzi (22) of Rutendo in Redcliff.
Gomba met his fate at Alarm 2 Mine Compound, while Muzadzi was stabbed at Mutegude Shopping Centre in Rutendo.
Insp. Mahoko said police had arrested Munashe Mpofu (18) and Chahiya Makore (23) in connection with the murder of Gomba, while a manhunt for their suspected accomplices – Isaac Gomba Mpande, Clever Zananda and Ivene Mawodzeka – has been launched.
“On 1 January 2022, at about 7 AM, the body of John Gomba, aged 39 years of Alarm 3 Compound, Kwekwe was discovered in a bushy area near Alarm 2 Mine Compound Kwekwe. It had stab wounds with intestines protruding,” Mahoko said.
He said police attended the scene and preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, Mpofu and Makore.
“They are in custody while investigations continue. Police is also keen to interview three others in connection with the case, Isaac Gomba Mpande, Clever Zananda and Ivene Mawodzeka all of Alarm 2 Mine Compound.”
Insp. Mahoko appealed to people with information on the whereabouts of the three to report at the nearest police station.
The other incident happened on 31 December 2021 at about 830PM, where Muzadzi is alleged to have had an altercation with an unidentified woman.
Insp. Mahoko said an unidentified man suddenly appeared behind Muzadzi and stabbed her three times with a knife.
“Police attended the scene where it was discovered that Muzadzi sustained three stab wounds and her intestines were protruding. She was rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
