Harare, (New Ziana) – Two suspected robbers have appeared before the Harare magistrates’ court facing seven counts including that of a Glenview 2 Shopping Centre Mukuru Money Transfer Booth that trended on social media towards the end of last year.
Norest Sasa (39) of Tafara, Mabvuku and Clive Makofa of Old Tafara, Mabvuku, additionally face another count of unlawful possession of a firearm. They were remanded in custody until January 29.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, allegations are that on December 16 last year, Sasa and Makofa robbed a Mukuru Money Transfer Booth at the Glenview 2 Shopping Centre.
They fired gun shots demanding money from the complainant who was manning the booth and he complied. The complainant was ordered to place money that was in the cash box including US$1 839 and ZAR2 350 into the two men’s black satchel.
Sasa and Makofa searched one of the clients at the booth and took his brown wallet containing US$950 and drove away in their getaway vehicle, a black Toyota Mark X, firing shots into the air to disperse the mob that had gathered in response to the commotion.
On December 20, the two men, using the same mode of operation, hit another Mukuru Money Transfer booth at Kamunhu Shopping Centre, Mabvuku, and got away with US$1 374 and ZAR22 000.
They also robbed the Manyame Complex and Beatrice Mukuru booths and got away with US$5 030 and ZAR 18700 sometime this month. The two men were advised to seek bail at the High Court.
