MUTARE– Two villagers from Parara under Chief Ngorima died after being trapped in a mudslide while seeking shelter from heavy rains.
Tsungirai Zvinorova, 44, and Chimuka Moyana, 47, were reported missing last week Friday, and their bodies were discovered the following Saturday in a devastating incident that has left the community in mourning.
According to Acting Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the heavy downpour caused the cave where the two men sought refuge to collapse. The suddenness of the mudslide caught them off guard, leading to their entrapment.
“A fellow villager stumbled upon a human leg protruding from the mass of mud when he later alerted fellow villagers. This is when the bodies of the two were retrieved,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
Unfortunately, by the time their bodies were retrieved, it was confirmed that both men had succumbed to the tragic circumstances.
This incident underscores the dangers posed by severe weather conditions in the region, particularly during the rainy season when mudslides and flooding become more prevalent. Local authorities have reiterated the importance of heeding weather warnings and avoiding risky shelters during storms.
