Harare (New Ziana)-Two staff members from a Covid-19 centre at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in the capital tested positive with the virus, the hospital said on Saturday.

On Wednesday, 21 health workers from a Bulawayo Hospital who had been in contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients, also tested positive.

In a statement, the hospital said the two workers who tested positive for Covid-19 were isolated and being monitored.

“Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals would like to inform the public that two of the 26 staff members who had just completed one of their shifts in our Covid-19 Centre tested positive for SARD- Cov-2.

“Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has three teams working in the Covid-19 centre and this had occurred in one of the teams, the team had just completed their second weekly shift and underwent the routine testing on the 8th day after their shift while in mandatory quarantine.

“Those who tested positive were immediately transferred to a designated isolation facility where they are getting appropriate care. The rest of the team members remain in quarantine awaiting further testing on the 14th day,” said the Hospital.

Zimbabwe now has 942 confirmed cases of Covid-19 after 16 people tested positive on Friday.

These included 8 returnees and 8 locals who never travelled outside the country.

The country also recorded one Covid-19 death, bringing the toll to 13 after a 63-year old woman from Matabeleland North province was detected through routine post mortem.

Zimbabwe is currently under level 2 of the lockdown meant to curb the sporadic spread of Covid-19 among citizens.

On Friday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa hinted on the need to re-tighten the lockdown regulations following the spike in Covid-19 infections.
