Gweru(New Ziana) – Vungu Rural District Council, which to date has received devolution funds amounting to ZWL$61 million, has commenced construction of a new clinic in Ward 1 to cater for hundreds of villagers who have been travelling for about 35 kilometers to the nearest health facility.
The RDC is also utilising its allocation of devolution funds to construct classroom blocks, rehabilitating damaged schools and clinics, drilling new boreholes and servicing old ones.
In an interview, Vungu RDC chief executive officer Alex Magura said they had embarked on several community development projects in line with the National Development Strategy 1.
Some of the work included repairing eight schools including Dimbamiwa Primary School, Mangwande Primary School in Ward 5 and Gambidza Primary School in Ward 10 respectively.
“We have also commenced the construction of a clinic in Ward 1, currently there are no health facilities in that area and people in that area have to travel for a distance of up to 35km and once complete the clinic which will be called the Impala clinic will provide the much-needed health services,” he said.
“Associated with Impala clinic, we are doing piped water scheme and the primary purpose of that scheme is to supply the clinic with water. We have made arrangements to draw water from a borehole about 4 or 5km away,” he said.
Magura added that; “A number of boreholes have been repaired across the district and we are still continuing to do that as spares are still available.”
