Harare, (New Ziana) – A misunderstanding over food ended with a 56-year-old Hwange man suffering a barrage of attacks with kitchen utensils, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reported.

For the abuse, the 45-year-old wife has been ordered to perform 210 hours of community service or risk spending six months behind bars.

The Hwange Magistrates’ Court initially sentenced the woman to 12 months imprisonment for contravening the Domestic Violence Act for physically abusing her husband.

The court, however, conditionally suspended 12 months of the jail term for five years and the remaining six months on condition she performs 210 hours of community service.

The court heard that on September 29 this year at around 7.30pm, the couple had a misunderstanding over food.

The woman stabbed her husband once on the left elbow using a kitchen knife and struck him with a dinner plate on the mouth. She also struck him several times all over the body using enamel cups resulting in him sustaining a swollen right upper lip and a deep cut on the left elbow.

The NPAZ urged members of the public to find peaceful ways of resolving disputes and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
