Harare, (New Ziana) – A 20-year-old woman is facing murder charges after she allegedly killed her step daughter by assaulting her with a cooking stick before attempting to secretly bury her with the assistance of her husband. Police have confirmed the incident, saying a video of the woman attacking the minor in a toilet had since gone viral.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Memory Moyana (20) in connection with a case of murder. The arrest follows a disturbing video circulating on social media, showing a woman brutally assaulting a naked minor in a toilet,” police said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations by police found that the suspect allegedly attempted to cover up the heinous crime by claiming that the minor girl had been attacked by evil spirits. After the suspected assault, the baby was taken to a self-proclaimed prophet in Ruwa where she tragically died.

“The suspect and her husband, Talent Muchato (26) tried to secretly bury the victim at Mutinhima village, Nyazura on 17/12/24. A

concerned citizen made a report to the police,” police said.
