Young Igwe is Back

Share

It has not been smooth sailing in the music industry for Peter Moyos with many questioning his
abilities as an artist saying he is merely riding on the back of his father’s popularity.
Since taking over the helm of Utakataka Express following the death of his father Tongai ‘Dewa’
Moyo who was affectionately known as Mopao Mokonzi, Peter has had to fight to prove that he is
his own man in the music industry.

Since his first album, Peter Moyo has shown maturity and versatility within the music industry which
was evident by his ability to record an Amapiano album as DJ Mapepetso.

The newly released album titled Mwana waMambo is a well-polished diamond and a highly created
masterpiece that should silence critics who doubted the Young Igwes prowess and virtuosity.
The six-track album Mwana waMambo is actually a reincarnation of Tongai Moyo and this is the
reason why Peter Moyo has exhibited the art of being mature.

The album is a replica of the early albums of his father Dewa.

Starting off the new album is an introductory song called Igwe. The song introduces Peter Moyo as
the Igwe (meaning a King in Nigerian Igbo language).

The song is a fusion of slow tempo Rhumba which can also be known as Bongo flavour.
On this song, one cannot ignore the influence of the Congolese chanter Gift Katulika also known as
Shiga Shiga.

However, this introduction could have been longer in terms of timeframe like Samanyemba which
was done by Tongai Moyo, but the shortness of this first introductory piece can also be accredited to
his maturity in music since the song ends leaving people yearning for more.

Ndangariro (Memories), the second song is slow-paced with some allegorical lyrics that may not be
comprehended easily by listeners who may wonder if the focal point of the lyrics and the song title
were directed at a living person or a departed beloved one.

Also to take note of, is the rhythmic leite mortifs of Leornard Dembos song Hande Kumusha
chizukuru and also Tongai Moyos Ndipeiwo Zambuko.

Zuva remuchato,is a song which talks about the wedding day which is also the meaning of and the
hope for a better marital life after the holy matrimony.

The arrangement of the song and the music dynamics are properly defined and correctly placed.
The vocals and the guitars were well mastered.

The Young Igwe can leave many people in love with their partners as evidenced by the deep love
lyrics on the song Ndiwe Urikupisa.
One might think that this song is Peter Moyo's dedication to his wife Caroline Rutendo Makamache.

Praising and telling God his issues has always been a characteristic of Peter Moyos abilities.
Hatina Nguva is a sermon appealing to God for forgiveness and also encouraging the sinner to repent
because time is not on his side and Mwari Wangu is also another track which is well arranged.

Apart from the exhibition of musical maturity displayed on this album, the self-proclaimed Sungura
Messiah has also fortified the legacy of his fathers music by following his footsteps in almost every
song on this album.

This album can safely be called the reincarnation of Tongai Dewa Moyo and the renaissance of Peter
Moyo within the music industry.
