Goromonzi – In a bold and inspiring stand against drug and substance abuse, youths from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Goromonzi led a week-long awareness campaign that culminated in a vibrant public march last weekend.
The initiative was aimed at instilling moral values and discouraging the use of drugs and substance among the community.
Running under the theme “Health and Wellness – Giving Hope to the Youth,” the campaign brought together church members, local leaders, and residents in a unified response to one of the most urgent challenges facing the nation’s youth.
The march served as the final highlight of a week filled with interactive programmes and stood as a clear declaration of the church’s commitment to indulge in the national wide fight against drugs.
Pastor Ismael Ndlovu, who led the initiative, said the purpose of the campaign extended beyond church walls.
He explained that there was a need for taking this initiative to the next level.
“We want to take this message beyond the church walls and into the heart of the community. Our mission is to empower young people with knowledge, faith, and strong values so they can make wise choices and resist the lure of drugs and harmful substances,” he said.
Assistant Pastor Tapiwa Rimayi noted that youths were actively involved in all aspects of the campaign, from planning to execution.
During the march, young participants handed out church literature to residents, with materials focusing on hope, wellness, and personal transformation through faith. These also included practical advice for those struggling with addiction and guidance for families supporting affected loved ones.
The peaceful procession drew significant attention as youths, joined by elderly residents, church leaders, and local businesspeople as well, marched through Goromonzi’s main roads.
Singing uplifting songs and chanting anti-drug slogans, the demonstrators captured the attention of pedestrians and motorists alike. Community members responded positively, with many praising the church’s hands-on approach to a social issue that continues to affect families across Zimbabwe.
This campaign forms part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s broader mission to promote both spiritual and physical well-being within its membership and in society at large.
By equipping the youth with both accurate information and faith-based support, the church aims to curb the appeal of drug use and strengthen community resilience”, Pastor Ndlovu added.
As the echoes of the march faded, the message remained unmistakable: through unity, education, and unwavering faith, Goromonzi youths are taking a stand—and leading the way towards a healthier, drug-free future.
