The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on Friday raised concern over a widely circulating video and audio recording that it says falsely implicates its officers in a fatal road traffic accident.

The accident, which occurred along the Masvingo–Beitbridge Highway on Thursday, claimed six lives and left several others injured.

In a statement, ZACC conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The Commission, however, dismissed allegations linking its officers to the incident, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.

According to the circulating content, ZACC officers allegedly instructed a truck driver to divert into a BP service station along the highway, a move said to have caused the crash.

Refuting the claims, ZACC said it does not deploy officers at roadblocks anywhere in the country.

“ZACC has no officers stationed at any roadblocks,” the Commission said, emphasizing that any assertions to the contrary are incorrect and should be treated with caution.

The anti-corruption body warned that the spread of unverified information not only misleads the public but also undermines the credibility of institutions.

Members of the public have been urged to verify information through the Commission’s Communications and Media Liaison Unit before sharing or acting on it, particularly in sensitive situations involving loss of life.

The incident has also renewed concerns over road safety along the busy Masvingo–Beitbridge Highway, a key regional route that has recorded several fatal accidents in recent years.
