Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Thursday the forthcoming ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference, to be held in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province next week, should provide an opportunity to assess the performance of the party and sharpen its priorities.

He said this while addressing the 132nd Ordinary Session of the Zanu PF Central Committee, which followed the meeting of the Politburo on Wednesday, and urged party members to turn conference resolutions into tangible results.

The party’s 23rd Annual National People’s Conference, to be from October 12 to 17, will run under the theme: “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment towards Vision 2030.”

“Conference will allow us to take stock, correct where necessary and refocus our collective Party priorities. It is my expectation that the Resolutions and decisions formulated by our Provincial structures have been thorough, honest and rooted in the aspirations and concerns of our members and the people we serve.

“The Office of the Secretary General, in liaison with the Office of the President and Cabinet, is called upon to coordinate the full implementation of previous Conferences and Congress Resolutions across both Party and Government structures,” President Mnangagwa said.

He commended party structures for contributing towards meeting the financial obligations required to host the conference, saying their support demonstrated commitment to Zanu PF and its programs.

President Mnangagwa said the party and Government were expected to remain guided by the values associated with the liberation struggle and the pursuit of Zimbabwe’s political and economic sovereignty.

“The confidence in Zanu PF, as reflected through the passing of the Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3 (CAA3), is an expression of trust by our members and the people of Zimbabwe at large, that is honoured and cherished. We have an obligation to continually raise the quality of servant leadership, accountability, discipline and integrity, for the betterment of our nation’s governance culture.

“Our political stewardship must be measured by better livelihoods, expanded opportunities, world class infrastructure, productive communities and a more secure future for every Zimbabwean, in every ward, district and province,” he said.

He urged provinces and districts to identify their specific opportunities and challenges and develop practical solutions suited to their local circumstances.

Such an approach, he said, would assist in building vibrant provincial economies by harnessing the natural and other resources available in each province.

President Mnangagwa, who is also the Zanu PF First Secretary, took the opportunity to express condolences to the families and friends of prominent businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo, who died in a helicopter crash in Marondera, Mashonaland East province on Wednesday together with his wife and four other people.

“Only last night we were shocked and saddened to hear the news of the helicopter crash that claimed the life of prominent businessman, Mr Wicknell Chivayo, and his wife along with four others. His philanthropic works and impactful life touched many across our nation and beyond. He will be remembered by us all,” he said.
