Harare (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party on Thursday said it is ready to contest in the March 26 by- elections with expectations to reclaim the urban constituencies.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa proclaimed that by-elections in 80 local authorities and 40 national assembly constituencies will be held on March 26, 2022.
The Nomination court will sit on January 26th.
Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi said reclamation of lost urban constituencies was high on the agenda of the party as the country goes for by-elections.
“Going into these by-elections, the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) has given a directive that all the seats that were left vacant by our late Members of Parliament must be reclaimed unconditionally; that all urban constituencies in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru and Mutare must be reclaimed unconditionally, ” he said.
Meanwhile, the Opposition MDC – T said the party was in the process of selecting representatives to contest in the by elections.
“Our internal selection processes are being finalized and as a party we are extremely happy with the openness of the process and the eagerness of our candidates to unselfishly serve the masses of Zimbabwe,” said MDC-T secretary for Information and Publicity Witness Dube in a statement.
