Gweru (New Ziana) –The ZANU-PF Midlands province believes the two MDC Alliance stalwarts who recently defected to Zanu PF, former Kwekwe Central legislator Blessing Chebundo and Senator Lillian Timveous, will bring a wealth of experience in promoting the national to vision attain an upper middle income economy by 2030.

Chebundo and Timveous, both from the Midlands, dumped the MDC Alliance and joined Zanu PF in a development which the ruling party provincial chairperson Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said would assist in the development of the country.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, his deputy Constantine Chiwenga and party chairperson Oppah Muchinguri welcomed the two into the ruling party at State House on Wednesday.

“We welcome Hon Chebundo and his colleague Senator Lillian Timveous,” said Mackenzie Ncube.

“This is a significant addition to the ZANU-PF family. It is also a clear testimony that the economic policies of the New Dispensation a bearing fruit. There is a realization that as Zimbabweans it is time we held hands and worked together for the development of our country. I am therefore thrilled by this development. Hon Chebundo is a calm and sober gentleman with a sharp brain. We welcome him into our structures.”

He said both Chebundo and Timveous would start from the party cell level and would not be handed leadership positions on a platter.

“They will start at cell level and work their way up, depending on their leadership qualities. They will not be handed posts on a platter. We will integrate and work with them. We will also gain from Chebundo’s experience in mobilizing the people,” said Mackenzie Ncube.

The MDC Alliance has recently been hit by defections, with disgruntled party members claiming that the opposition party had lost direction.
