Mutare (New Ziana) – A Zebra Kiss bus skidded and flipped over near Mutare on Tuesday night, injuring 27 passengers.

The accident occurred along the Mutare-Chimanimani highway, and the bus was coming from South Africa with 27 passengers.

According to eyewitnesses the bus skidded off the road and flipped on its side near Mutare Teachers College.

“The driver failed to negotiate the sharp curve just before Mutare Teachers College, and due to the speed he was travelling at, the bus skidded off the road and landed on its left side with the force of the luggage trailer also forcing the bus sideways,” said James Mukwamba, an eyewitness who was at the scene.

Injured passengers were taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital in Mutare.

Police are yet to confirm details of the incident.

The accident comes three weeks after 13 cross border traders were seriously injured when another Zebra kiss bus travelling from Zambia was involved in accident along the Harare-Chirundu highway.

This accident came a few days after a government ban on the bus company, imposed after one of its buses was involved in a fatal accident along the Harare-Nyamapanda road, was lifted.
