    ZEGU student killed over girlfriend

    Bindura (Nehanda Guardian-New Ziana) – A Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) student was allegedly murdered in cold blood over a lady in Bindura on Saturday, Nehanda Guardian has been informed.

    According to acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Tonny Nyandoro, the student Hugh Makumbe (21) of Unit K Chitungwiza was a first year law student at the Christian university.

    It is alleged that on the day in question, Chengetai Jimu (24) of Toronto Forestry Commission depot in Mutare came to see his girlfriend, Rumbidzai Mangandu (23), a Social Work student at the same institution.

    He had heard that his girlfriend was allegedly seeing another man, Makumbe.

    And when Jimu got to his girlfriend’s place and did not find her, he decided to visit Makumbe’s place of residence.

    Upon arriving at Makumbe’s residence and knocking on the door, Makumbe came out and Jimu allegedly stabbed him once on the neck and he collapsed.

    Rumbidzai, who was inside, decided to check on Hugh and when she got to the door, Jimu allegedly poured her sulphuric acid.

    She then ran away and hid in a nearby bush, leaving Makumbe in a pool of blood.

    She went back to their haven and alerted neighbors’ of the heinous act, before walking to Chiwaridzo police station where she made a report.
    Jimu was allegedly paying for Rumbidzai’s rentals and other subsistence costs.

    He is on the run and police are appealing for information that can lead to his arrest.

    Sergeant Nyandoro said: “People should always settle their differences amicably, violence only brings more problems and crimes, hence we are saying when people are in disagreement, they should seek guidance and counseling from elders or friends.”
