Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has awarded local and international tenders running into millions of United States dollars as the power utility moves to strengthen its electricity transmission and distribution systems, enhance security at its facilities and acquire specialized technological equipment.

This is contained in a ZETDC tender award notice, which outlines successful bidders and contract values for a wide range of supplies and services, including electrical components, strategic spare parts, security solutions, drones, construction works and specialized infrastructure requirements.

Among the biggest contracts announced in the notice is a US$5.6 million award to Longshire Technology Group Co. Ltd for the supply and delivery of strategic spares. The equipment includes critical components such as overcurrent relays and frequency synchronizing relays, which are essential for maintaining the reliability and stability of the national electricity network.

ZETDC further expanded its investment in surveillance and operational technology, awarding BT Engineering and Projects Company a US$635 180 tender for the supply of 27 long-range drones. Other technology-related awards covered short-range drones, specialized testing equipment and other electrical support systems.

The tender notice also highlighted procurement initiatives aimed at improving operational capacity and infrastructure protection. These include the construction of perimeter walls at selected ZETDC facilities, acquisition of generators and transformers, fuel dispenser pumps, and equipment required for the Mazoe 88kV Project.
