Kwekwe (New Ziana) – Four family members have been arrested after they allegedly ganged up and assaulted their four-year-old nephew whom they accused of being naughty.

The accused, Jabulani (22), Derek (25), Stella (27) and Margaret Mpofu (56) of Village 1A Langton Farm, in Chief Sigodo area of Silobela appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with physical abuse.

Regional Magistrate Florence Nago remanded the four in custody to September 9.

Public prosecutor Chipo Hungwe told the court that on an unknown date in July this year, the four family members assaulted their nephew accusing him of being naughty.

“The accused took turns to assault the complainant with a wooden stick all over the body. The complainant sustained bruises on the back and on the face due to the assault,” Hungwe said.

The matter was reported to the police by the complainant’s aunt leading to the arrest of the four.

The victim was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for medical examination.
