Harare(New Ziana)-Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique Lt General (Rtd) Douglas Nyikayaramba died on Tuesday of Covid-19 related complications.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed the demise of the diplomat at the start of the first Cabinet meeting for 2021 which is currently underway at State House.
In a statement, acting Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Prof Amon Murwira said the late Ambassador Nyikayaramba passed on in Harare.
“The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Prof Murwira regrets to announce the untimely passing on of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique, Lt General (Rtd) Douglas Nyikayaramba on 09 February 2021 in Harare. More funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” he said.
On Monday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said at least 1 339 people had died from Covid-19 while overally 34 658 have been infected since the onset of the pandemic last March.
