Zim Covid-19 cases hit 160

Harare (New Ziana)-The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Zimbabwe has risen to 160 from 149, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

The number rose after 11 more people tested positive on Friday.

In its daily update early Saturday, the Ministry said the new infections, except two, were recorded in quarantine facilities where returning citizens are sheltered.

“Eleven people tested positive for COVID-19 today. These include nine returnees, (Botswana 2) and (South Africa (7) and two local cases who are all isolated.

“To date , the total number of confirmed cases is 160, 29 recoveries, 127 active cases and 4 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on March 20,” said the Ministry.

Cumulatively, Zimbabwe has tested 46 613 samples for Covid-19 (26 753 rapid screening and 16 860 PCR diagnostic tests).

Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people who fall sick with Covid-19 experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without special treatment.

The virus that causes Covid-19 is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales.

These droplets are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces.

One can be infected by breathing in the virus if one is within close proximity of someone who has Covid-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then one’s eyes, nose or mouth.
