Harare, November (New Ziana) -Covid-19 cases rose on Monday to 235 from 115 the previous day, with 73 of them being detected at Masvingo Teachers College, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

In its daily update, the Ministry said the country recorded one death on Monday.

“235 new cases and 1 death reported today. Seven day-rolling average for new cases rises to 79 from 49. At least 73 of the 82 cases reported by Masvingo are from the same learning institution.

“As of 28 November 2021, at 1500 hours there were 20 hospitalised cases: New admissions (4), asymptomatic 0, mild to moderate 13, severe 5 and 2 in intensive care units,” said the Ministry.

The rise in the number of Covid-19 cases raise fears that they could be caused by the recently discovered Omicron variant.

Authorities have however said no cases of the Omicron variant have been recorded in the country yet and they are prepared to deal with it.
