Zim Covid-19 death toll rises to 12

Harare (New Ziana)-The death toll from Covid-19 rose to 12 on Thursday after 3 people died in Harare, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said on Friday.

In a statement, the Ministry said the deaths were recorded in hospitals in the capital.

“Today we regret to report three deaths reported from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital (2) and Parirenyatwa Hospital (1), these were detected as part of routine testing of all deaths that occur on admitted patients in hospitals,” it said.

Zimbabwe also recorded 41 new positive cases of Covid-19, 36 of which were locally transmitted.

The latest positive cases bring the country’s cumulative tally to 926.

“Forty-one (41) cases tested positive for Covid-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (2), Namibia (1), Japan (1), and 36 local cases who are isolated,” the Ministry said.

“To date, the total number of confirmed cases is 926; recovered 306, active cases 608 and 12 deaths, since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.”

On Wednesday, Zimbabwe recorded its biggest jump in Covid-19 infections since the first case was recorded late March after 98 new cases were recorded.

The Ministry of Health said 21 of the 51 infections recorded in Bulawayo were health workers who had been in contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients.

“Yesterday Bulawayo province reported 51 confirmed cases of which 21 are health care workers who have been in contact with confirmed cases admitted at the hospital and have been isolated,” it said.

The total number of tests conducted to date now stands at 86 212.
