Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 cases crossed the 600 point mark on Wednesday, and also saw a big increase local transmission of the disease.

While imported cases still account for the bulk of infections, local
transmissions have been on the rise in the past two weeks, with 13 of
the 14 new cases recorded on Wednesday being of local origin.

“Two of the local cases are contacts to known confirmed cases,
investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for
the other 11 cases,” the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.

Harare and Bulawayo accounted for six each of the new cases while the
    Midlands province had two.

The new cases took the tally of confirmed cases to 605.

Three new recoveries were also recorded to take the tally of those who
    have healed to 166.

The number of tests carried out to date to ascertain infection now
    stands at 68 400.

Zimbabwe is under a level 2 lockdown for an indefinite period aimed at
minimising citizens’ movement and gatherings to curtail a wild fire spread of infections, which could stretch the country’s healthcare
    system.
