Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe on Thursday recorded three new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s total confirmed infections to 51, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

In a daily update, the Ministry said two of the three cases were recorded in quarantine centres where returning citizens are kept upon arrival into the country.

All arrivals into Zimbabwe are subjected to strict Covid-19 screening including a mandatory quarantine period of 21 days with testing being done on the first, eighth and 21st days.

“Three cases tested positive for Covid-19 today. Two cases are returnees from Botswana who both tested positive on the 8th day of quarantine and one is a Harare resident with no history of travel,” said the Ministry.

It added: “To date the total number of confirmed cases is 51: recovered 18, active cases 29 and 4 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020”.

The new Covid-19 cases came out of nearly 2 000 tests conducted countrywide on Thursday.

“Today 1 379 RDT screening tests and 466 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 34 707 (19 623 RDT and 15 084 PCR) said the Health Ministry.
