Zim donates 20 000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to Namibia

Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe on Monday handed over a consignment of 20 000 doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine to Namibia to assist that country in its fight against the third wave of the pandemic.

In addition to the 20 000 doses of the vaccine, Zimbabwe also handed over 20 000 syringes.

The Zimbabwe government has since said the donation would not affect local supplies, as enough doses had been secured to cover all eligible citizens.

Deputy Heath and Child Care Minister, Dr John Mangwiro and his Foreign Affairs and International Trade counterpart David Musabayana, handed over the consignment to Namibian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa.

Among the donated consignment was also personal protective equipment which include hand sanitisers, masks and face shields, as well as medical supplies manufactured by local companies and universities.

Musabayana said Zimbabwe’s local PPEs manufacturing companies had so far produced enough to cater the local market as well as exporting.

Namibia set a target of inoculating 1.5 million eligible citizens, or 60 percent of the population, by March 31 next year.
