Harare(New Ziana) – Zimbabwe’s largest referral hospital, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has established the country’s first traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

The TCM clinic was set up following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between China and Zimbabwe on cooperation in the field of TCM and acupuncture.

In a memo to the acting registrar of the National Therapist Council of Zimbabwe, secretary in the Ministry Dr Jasper Chimedza said the clinic was now ready for inspection and licensing.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China on cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicine and acupuncture. Pursuant to this, Ministry of Health has established a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

“The clinic is now ready for inspection and licensing. We kindly request that you expedite the licensing of the Clinic so that it can be officially opened. We request that the Council license and register practitioners for the clinic too,” said Dr Chimedza.

Traditional Chinese medicine encompasses various forms of treatment, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, exercise and dietary therapy, and dates over 2 000 years.
