Zim making major achievements in justice delivery system -Ziyambi

Bulawayo New Ziana)-Zimbabwe is making major strides in ensuring access to and delivery of justice to all as envisioned in the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), a Cabinet Minister has said.

He was speaking at the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs strategic planning and review workshop here.

Kazembe reminded officials that their work impact on the lives of every citizen and resident of the country and therefore they should serve as guardians of the nation`s legal and moral compass.

The workshop was attended by senior officials from the ministry, relevant stakeholders and the private sector.

“The journey of justice is not an easy one, it is filled with challenges and obstacles. But it is our unity, our shared commitment to justice that serves as our greatest strength,” he said.

Ziyambi said his Ministry, through the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), is making progress in the fight against corruption to ensure justice is served to individuals, regardless of their status or influence.

“In the past year, we have made significant progress in our fight against corruption through the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and National Prosecuting Authority. We have tirelessly worked to ensure that justice is served to all individuals, regardless of their status or influence.

“Furthermore, WE have made substantial strides in reforming our criminal justice system, making it more transparent, accountable and fair,” he said.

He said the Zimbabwe Humans Rights Commission has obtained an “A” status accreditation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institution and has since expanded its reach throughout the country.

“The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission has also scaled up resolving the legacy of conflict in our country. It has organised meetings for sub regional conflict prevention and non-recurrence Thematic Committees and Provincial Peace Committees,” he said.

The Commission raised awareness about drugs and substance abuse in schools and communities, while the Judicial Service Commission has made noteworthy progress in enhancing infrastructure including building new courts to bring justice closer to the people.

It has also implemented the Intergrated, Electronic Case Managent System, which modernises and innovates our judiciary system, said the Ziyambi.

Ziyambi commended the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for its success in organising free, fair and credible harmonised elections on August 23 nd 24 this year, a feat which he said shamed the country’ detractors.
