    Zim national dam water levels rise to 82 percent

    Harare (New Ziana)- Some of the country’s major dams have recorded gains in water levels as a result of the on-going wet spell being experienced in most areas, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) said on Sunday.

    In an update, Zinwa said as of January 28, 2021, the national dam level average stood at 82 percent with Sanyati Catchment having the highest dam level average at 103.2 percent.

    According to the latest statistics, Gwayi catchment has a dam level average of 97 percent, Mazowe 52.3 percent, Manyame 67 percent, Mzingwane 78.6 percent, Runde catchment 89.6 percent while Save catchment had 69 percent.

    Dams which supply water to the capital, Harare for instance Chivero is 56.3 percent full, while Manyame is 61.8 percent.

    City of Bulawayo supply dams are however still to rise in terms of water levels for instance Mtshabezi is 39 percent full, Lower Ncema 16.2 percent while Mzingwane dam is at 26.7 percent.

    Zimbabwe’s largest inland water body, Tugwi- Mukosi Dam, is currently spilling at 107.6 percent .
