Harare (New Ziana) – Cabinet on Tuesday said Zimbabwe was ready to receive international visitors after over five months of isolation.

In response to Covid-19, Zimbabwe shut down its land borders and airspace to foreign visitors in March, only allowing returning residents.

The move, which was in line with the global response to the pandemic, helped the country reduce the number of Covid-19 cases.

In preparation for the re-opening of the country, Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Rtd), who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care toured Zimbabwe’s main airports to assess the country’s readiness to receive foreign visitors.

“Cabinet received a report from honorable Vice President Chiwenga on his weekend visit to take stock of the airports and the related infrastructure ahead of the resumption of international flights on the 1st October 2020,” Information and Publicity Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said.

“Cabinet noted with satisfaction that the three airports visited namely the Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport (in Harare), the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo airport (in Bulawayo) and the Victoria Fall Airport, as well as hotels, are now ready to receive travelers in line with Covid-19 guidelines.

“The necessary guidelines and standard operating procedures for travelers will be announced by the sector as the date approach.”
