Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Monday recorded its ninth Covid-19 death at a time the number of confirmed cases of infection continues to surge, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

The latest death, the second in a week, was of a 54-year old man from Bulawayo province.

“Today (Monday), we regret to report a facility death of a male aged 54, from Bulawayo province who tested positive yesterday (Sunday) with no history of travel and had no co-morbidities,” the Ministry said.

A total of 18 new cases were also recorded, taking the tally of confirmed cases to 734.

Sixteen of the new cases were imported while two were local transmission.

On the other hand, 16 new recoveries were also recorded, 12 of them being from Harare province while Masvingo and Midlands had 2 recoveries each.

To date, a total of 80 654 tests have been carried out since the first case was recorded at the end of March this year.

Zimbabwe remains under an indefinite level two lockdown, which minimises citizens movement in a bid to curtail spread of the pandemic.
