Zim records spike in Covid-19 deaths

Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Wednesday recorded 13 new Covid-19 deaths, taking the country’s total fatalities to 179, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

In a daily, update the Ministry of Health said ten of the latest 13 deaths were recorded in Harare alone, pushing the provincial tally to 103.

The country also recorded 55 new Covid-19 cases, of which 36 were local infections while 19 were returnees from South Africa and Botswana.

“55 new cases and 13 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours (No new cases reported in Harare and Bulawayo but Harare reports 10 deaths to go past 100 deaths in Harare alone. The other deaths are from Mashonaland East (1) and Matabeleland South (2).

“As of 26 August 2020, Zimbabwe has now recorded 6 251 cases, 5001 recoveries and 179 deaths,” said the Ministry.

The Ministry said the national recovery rate of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases now stands at 80 percent while active cases have also gone up to 1 071.
