Harare (New Ziana)-Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded 14 new Covid-19 infections and zero deaths for the first time in over two months, statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care show.

The country last recorded zero Covid-19 deaths on December 26, 2020.

In its daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the 14 new Covid-19 cases were recorded out of the 1 302 tests that were conducted on Saturday.

To date, the country has recorded 36 058 Covid-19 confirmed cases and 1 463 deaths.

The number of people vaccinated against Covid-19 using the Sinopharm vaccine went up to 15 705 following the inoculation of 3 126 more frontline workers on Saturday.

The country expects to achieve a herd immunity after Covid-19 vaccination of at least 10 million people by the end of 2021.

Since the current level 4 lockdown measures announced on February 15, the country has recorded a marked decrease in deaths and confirmed coronavirus cases.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to announce new measures when the current lockdown restrictions lapse on Monday to mitigate against further spread of Covid-19.
