Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe and South Africa are discussing possible cooperation in the setting up of the Museum of African Liberation, which is being constructed in Harare, a Cabinet Minister has said.

The Museum of African Liberation will document, preserve and protect stories of liberation struggles of African countries told from an African perspective.

Already, several African countries and others from beyond including Russia, China and Cuba have endorsed and pledged to avail historical artefacts in support of the project.

Tweeting after delivering a special message to President Cyril Ramaphosa from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Shava said the museum would be a celebration of the continent’s shared history of fighting colonial rule.

“It was a pleasure to deliver a special message to His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa from his brother and friend His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa. We discussed possible cooperation in building an African Museum of Liberation to celebrate our continent’s shared history of fighting for our freedom,” he said.

“Only by learning from our past may Africa build a better future.”

Through the project, Zimbabwe will benefit from a new package for the tourism sector while the rest of the world will benefit from the research center to be set up as part of the museum.

Construction of the museum, which began two months ago, is expected to be completed in 2023.
