Harare, (New Ziana) – In a significant milestone for economic cooperation between the two countries, Zimbabwe and Zambia have signed two landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at promoting the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives.
Zimbabwean permanent secretary for Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Mavis Sibanda and Zambian permanent secretary for Small and Medium Enterprises Development Subeta Mutelo signed the MOUs in the capital on Thursday.
“This partnership is poised to unlock new trade and investment opportunities by promoting joint ventures across various sectors, thereby enhancing economic growth,” said Sibanda.
“By engaging in joint research initiatives and leveraging existing international and regional agreements, we will amplify the visibility of our goods and services, capacity building, and the promotion of entrepreneurship and cooperative development.”
The two countries also plan to streamline trade facilitation measures, empower entrepreneurs to participate in trade missions and exhibitions, and establish warehouses and trading houses to improve operational efficiency.
“With the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), we are presented with unparalleled opportunities for Intra-Africa trade,” added Sibanda.
“Strengthening our bilateral ties through these MOUs will allow us to leverage these opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity.”
Signing of the MOUs marks a significant milestone in the collaborative journey of Zimbabwe and Zambia, as the two countries seek to transform their MSME and cooperative sectors and drive socio-economic development in the region.
The agreements aim to facilitate increased cooperation in areas such as policy development, capacity building, and the promotion of entrepreneurship and cooperative development.
